With Thanksgiving in our rear-view mirror and Christmas approaching, the time to get your holiday shopping finished is drawing near. If you’re anything like my mother, you refuse to step into any mall, at any time, for anything after Thanksgiving. She prefers the luxury of ordering online and skipping out on the massive lines and grumpy shoppers. Besides all of that, the worst part for me is trying to find a gift for a relative who seemingly has everything. Above Ground Pool Rust Around Skimmer
At some point in the life of your above ground pool, odds are that you will start to see rust form around your skimmer. This occurs as moisture gets between the liner and the pool wall. Most of the time this moisture is as a result of a leakage around the skimmer or return fitting or a small leak in the liner. The good thing about rust around the skimmer is that the skimmer is located at the top of the pool wall where there is very little water pressure compared to the bottom of the pool wall. This means that this repair can be done easily at little cost. There are two ways I suggest to tackle the repair of a rusty skimmer. Either you can patch the rusted skimmer opening and cut a new skimmer hole in a good section of the pool wall or you can rebuild the rusted skimmer opening. Below we outline each method. (more…)
One thing we would suggest to every new pool owner is to get familiar with pool basics. This doesn’t mean you have to fix or even maintain your own pool; there are plenty of pros out there who can take care of that for you. But trust us, ignorance is NOT bliss when it comes to swimming pools.
