Hi, What is a generic pool pump motor replacement for Jandy Stealth pump SHPF1.5 PUMP, 1.5HP FULLRATED SHP SERIES. Rate HP: 1.50 X S.F: 1.47 = Total Motor HP 2.21 The current motor is Century EPlus Switchless. Also what other part kit would I need or recommended. Thank you, Hau
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/14/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S.

The drop-in replacement is the 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate EE Motor - B2842; but another option for your pump is the 2 HP uprated, which equals the same total HP, 2 H.P Pool Motor Square Flange 56Y Up Rate - B859.To figure out the correct shaft seal for your Jandy Stealth SHPF, we would need to know the model number of the pump housing. An example of what the serial number would look like, P08FF0001.

Most commonly the seals and gaskets are replaced with the motors. You will need to know the front pump housing model name or number that the motor bolts to in order to cross-reference the correct ones. You can call us to let us know or if you are not sure of the model then you can always email us images of that housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can confirm for you.

I would recommend replacing the shaft seal, backplate o ring, and the diffuser/impeller hardware. You will need the serial number of the pump to confirm which shaft seal you will need.

A  Answered on 5/24/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Your motor is the B859. You may also need the seal kit so you will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to in order to cross reference that. If you cannot locate that information then you can email us some images to upload@inyopools.com so we can try and identify it for you.

You will need the following parts numbers, 354545S or PSR-200, 355331 and 355329 which all can be found on the Pentair / Pac Fab Challenger parts page.

Hi Lynn, This B843 motor will be the correct replacement motor for p/n 7-193995-07 that is mounted to your Jandy Stealth pump. This is a "full rate" motor, what that means is the it's rated a 2 HP but has a service factor of 1.3. When you multiply the rated hp by the service factor you get the total hp of that motor, which would be 2.6 HP.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Old motor burned out after 8 yrs

Written on 7/12/2018 by Guest

Followed directions supplied with new motor and seal. The only issue I have is that they didn't say tondead head the pump. I knew to do that from 8 yrs of pool ownership, but I could see how some people might not and lose prime. That would have added more time to the job. Otherwise, followed every step within the instructions. I should have replaced the big O ring that seals the motor to the pump, but it wasn't recommended. I used some silicone lube which is like Vaseline made from silicone. Again, I didn't see that in the instructions but knew from other repairs. I bought new collars to attach the wire to the pump and wires as per directions. I would say 90 minutes start to finish. I also dug out around the motor. The old one was partially buried, which probably is the reason it failed. I would say this is a good home for a do it yourselfer as long as you are comfortable with crimping wires, etc. it is 220 after all. Also, I would order a new impeller, since they are not expensive and removing the old one required a delicate touch and two people. One to hold the implellet with large channel locks and another to secure the drive shaft with a lock wrench

Were these instructions helpful?

Pump motor replacement and pump tune up.

Written on 5/8/2017 by Guest

My family and I recently moved into a house that has a pool that has not been used in about 20 years. Of course the pool had a number of issues after sitting so long, one of which was a bad motor. Since all of the pool's equipment sits out in the open, most of the identifying marks were weather faded and unreadable. Therefore, I contacted a customer service rep at INYO who was able to provide all of the correct part numbers, based on my descriptions of the parts. The rep also recommended a couple of videos that would be the most applicable to my situation, and after viewing those, I was able to replace the pump motor and perform a tune up on the pump in about an hour. One of the most helpful things the rep told me was that the motor comes without any accompanying equipment, including a power cord. I found this very helpful because it clued me in to the fact that I also needed to order all the extra items I needed, rather than finding out when I opened the box. This saved me the trouble of having to place a second order, and then having to wait a couple of more days for those parts to come in. At any rate, I wired up the motor according to the included wiring diagram and followed the information I obtained from the videos on everything else and when I was done, the whole thing fired right up and has been running without any problems ever since.
