James, The correct Clamp Assy W/hardware p/n ECX4000C is what you'll need for the EC40 D.E. Filters.

This clamp hardware & o-ring is not compatible with the Krystal Klear sand filter.

When putting the bolts in to tighten the ring, do you put the socket on the big end of bolt on both sides the same or opposite sides?

It does not matter, make it so it is easiest to remove.

I am desperate for a sand filter ring. Its 8 7/8" across, 1 1/4" thick and 7/8" groove on the inside. Will this fit my sand filter?

We will need the current filter model number located on the tank body the holds the sand. You are welcome to reply back with images of the filter and an image of the valve from the top view of the valve.
