Why under details is this liner listed as only 20 gauge?

Justin, Liner gauges and mils vary depending on the mfg. For example, one mfg may offer a 25 gauge liner and a different company a 20 gauge liner, and both are the same thickness.

LINER LEAKS FROM TEARS IN A SUNKEN ABOVE GROUND POOL

Written on 3/27/2018 by Guest

Our Great White Pyrenees jumped in our 2 week old 24 foot round above ground salt water pool [ that we sunk 3 1/2 feet ] and put 3 tears along the upper walls. After 2 1/2 years of patching and re-patching [ Glue didn't hold completely on the patches for more than a few months at a time, but patches had to be made under water and we put up with it ] .We had to add water every 3 days and that always messed up the pool chemistry. So I decided to replace the liner myself before the HEAT of summer here in FLORIDA.. This is not a easy task for the first timer with a sunken salt water pool. My wife and I dug the sand out along the outer edge of the pool about 12 inches and about 30 inches deep to help prevent cave-ins after the water was pumped out. We recruited 2 friends the following Saturday to help remove and install the new liner. After the liner was in and started adding water it was just me and my wife. Just for your information we had a lot of rusty hardware to replace [ top stabilizer bars, top plates, and rusted screws ]. I had to use a sawzall to cut the screws holding the top resin rails on. Everything came off fairly easy overall since the hardware was rusted and corroded. I recommend installing new stabilizer bars, top plates and stainless steel screws. Be aware that chunks of rust may come off the stabilizer bars and top plates and fall to the bottom where your new liner will be. I used a shop vac to remove all the pieces of rust and leaves before we laid out the new liner [25 mil]. The last thing you want is a sharp piece if rusty metal poking a hole in the bottom of your new liner after you fill your pool. I suggest doing some homework before you tackle installing a new liner on a sunken above ground salt water pool. I had a lot of rust. As long as you don't have any cave-ins while removing everything, the liner install is pretty much normal for a above ground pool in my opinion. I didn't have any cave-ins. I hope my experience helps you. My project took me all weekend to complete [ a lot more work than I expected for a sunken pool liner replacement ]. I could not have done this liner project myself without the help of my friends and INYOPOOLS.
