how do I size a correct filter to my pool

You would need to make sure that the gallons per minute (gpm) rating of the filter is at or greater than the gpm rating of the pump. Also the proper surface area of the pool needs to be compatible with the filter surface area. Hence the more water surface area the more filter square footage needed depending on the model filter. Lastly, making sure the filter is compatible with any equipment that could potentially increase the pressure within the filter (i.e. solar system) would be needed. Providing that equipment information to us and or a pool contractor would be wise in order to confirm compatibility of your filter to your system.

What would be the estimated total gallon capacity for a pool as in total gallon capacity. In other words what would be the optimum total estimated capacity ( ex. 1500 gal or greater or lessor). I am trying to determine my estimated pool gallon capacity.Is there also some chart for a novice like me in order to have reference as to total estimated pool capacity for this filter? I am trying to get some understanding about my estimated gallon pool holding volume.
