Mark,I recommend staying within the bounds of what the manufacturer suggests per their manual. So I would stick with using the DE Bag assembly.

I have an old Hayward water separation tank model. C-LE-42114
Will this bag fit my tank and if not can you recommend one that I can buy from you.

This separation tank bag works with the Hayward Star-Clear Plus Separation Tanks made in and prior to May 2004. From your serial # it would appear this is correct. This is used in Hayward Star-Clear Plus Hayward C9002SEP DE Separation Tank (Star-Clear Plus)

The big issue was to determine if this was the correct bag for my unit since my DE collection unit does not have a date, only a serial number. One other vendor just told me that they didn't know if this bag would fit or not; the team at Inyo went above and beyond and found out for me. I ordered from Inyo even though another vendor was $5 less.
I compared the dimensions with the old bag assembly when the new unit arrived; perfect match. I lubed the O ring and installed the new bag in the housing. I was waiting to backwash my pool filter so I would not discharge DE into my yard (grandkids play out there). The collector bag from Inyo worked great! I installed the DE collection unit to stop discharges of DE into the yard, the water is so clean that I can backwash into the pool to save water if I want to.
