Can I replace an old DE filter "finger" (about 30 yrs old) with the new version? I can't seem to remove the original "finger". I tried turning it clockwise but it doesn't budge. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

Bobbie, With your filter being 30 years old I would recommend replacing the entire unit if you're able to. If you replace the entire tube assembly and something else goes then you'll have to replace that. I would also check with Hayward at 908.355.7995 to make sure that the current style can fit into the older filters.

how can I tell if I have an EC 65 or a EC 75?

The difference is length EC 75  is LENGTH = 15-3/4"" EC65 LENGTH = 13-3/4" of the fingers

Removed filter assembly form the canister housing, that gave access to the small screws that hold the upper and lower plates. Remove the screws and the flex tubes are able to be changed. I lifted the damaged tubes with a screwdriver due to the DE that stuck them in place. The new tubes drop right in, Reassemble.
