I am trying to put a GOKIT6 in my Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas (pre 1998)--1 HP, but cannot get the impeller off. Do you know if any tricks? IO could put a rod into the cooling fins on the motor to try and hole it in place, but do not want to break anything. I pulled the back cover off the motor and tried to hole the shaft with a screwdriver, but this is definitely not a good idea.

Hi, John. Check the impeller to make sure it does not have an impeller screw. It will have to be removed before removing the impeller. Then use a 7/16" wrench to lock the motor shaft in order to remove the impeller. You can also follow the steps in our How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump guide.
