What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Hi Deb, most commonly this is caused by a seal issue. Here is a guide that we put together called "How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump" that should assist. For us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump? To supply this photo simply click the reply link below and upload your photo. Once we get this photo we can make the proper recommendation for the seal kit.

Looking to replace Century UST1152 Model #CH8L2N134C1. Is this the correct motor? Also which seal would be compatible? Thanks.

Hello Roy. The Century 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1152 is the correct replacement motor for the motor model UST1152, C48L2N134C1. The Shaft Seal would be specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump and not the motor UST1152. Please provide pump manufacturer/model information and a recommendation can be made.

Will this work as a replacement for an SNL1152 part 7-193686-02?
Hello Brian, the correct single speed replacement motor for your motor part number is the SN1152. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets when replacing a pool pump motor.
