What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

My motor is shows same type (CX), FR (P56J), Hz (6), Insulation Class B same as the Motor 56j Trhd Up 2.5 hp (b231se). But mine is a Code H (not E). Also shows 230/115 volts and Amps of "SF 9.2/18.4". I know my home electrical wiring is 115 volts (not 230). Can the Motor 56j (b231se) be hooked up to 115 volt system?

No, the b231se can only be hooked up to 230v.

WHICH TUNE UP KIT SHOULD I PURCHASE WITH THIS PUMP MOTOR?

So tune up kits are actually based on the front pump housing model name or number that the motor bolts to. If you can provide that to us then we should be able to locate the correct kit for you. If that information is not legible on the pump then you can always email us pictures of it to upload@inyopools.com so we can further assist.

So I'm the guy that never buys impulsively. InYo is my goto provider, as they have the best prices and fastest shipping in the business. This motor is the best deal on the market and they get all my pool supply business. This motor is also the quietest, but I've had 3 motors go out in 10 years (about 3-4 years average), which is not uncommon, but current advice is to build a cover to reduce them being in the rain and sun which may be adding to their mean time to repair. We'll see. I couldn't justify the jump to a variable pump motor, due to cost for the motor and new controller and low cost of electricity in Louisiana. If I can invest in some lumber to extend the life a couple of years per motor, then I will be better off financially.
