Replacing the volute 3/4 " end plate appears to be taking out the screws and putting the new plate on with the gasket and tightening up the screws. Anything tricky about this process?

Hello Frank, taking off the volute the biggest challenge is getting off your inlet/outlet suction hose fittings going to pump supply/discharge. After that its unscrewing your old volute and replacing with new one along with gasket.

Will the 3/4" Volute part number 3260-82 fit the pre-2004 backing plate part number 3260-76?

Yes, the Volute 3/4" Npt-f (ax5060a) will mount to the Seal Plate Prior To 2004 (ax5060b) - 3260-76.
