What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

Is this the correct replacement motor for a 2008 pentair PMP WFDS-6 230v 1 1/2HP, p/n 011522?

Hi David, This B2983 motor is the correct replacement motor for the WFDS-6 pump. I would also recommend that the get the Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Tune Up Kit p/n GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

How much is actually saved in electrical costs going from a 2-speed to a variable speed. Trying to determine the payback equation.

Hi. They're several calculation tools that you can use depending on the manufacturer. If you would like to just change the motor with the Century V-Green VS Motor, you can use the V-Green Calculator

Motor Making Weird Sound

Written on 12/10/2023 by Guest

My motor was making a weird sound as a result of a damaged capacitor/housing and I preferred to replace it completely to be safe...

1) Shutoff all power breakers to pool pump
2) Remove motor cap in back of motor
3) Disconnect all wires including ground
4) Unscrew wire protector from motor
5) Remove all (6) bolts to remove motor from pump housing
6) Remove all (4) bolts from motor to switch pump housing plate to new motor.
7) Replace bearings and O-ring provided on new motor
8) Reinstall new motor to existing pump in reverse order

Noisy Pump Motor

Written on 6/15/2018 by Guest

After reaching out to INYO Pool customer service to ensure that I knew which model to purchase and consulting the INYO Pool website to download the appropriate wiring diagram, I took the plunge and purchase a replacement motor with confidence that I could do the work myself. Armed with a Phillips screwdriver, a pair of wire cutters/strippers and a multimeter to confirm the power was shutoff (safety first), I was able to swap out my old, noisy motor with an OEM replacement in under two hours time. Everything fit perfectly and the new motor sounds great... and I did it all myself for less than half of what the pros quoted me! Thank you INYO Pool Products!
