With any pool heating unit, installers usually install a bypass valve to bypass the heating unit when not in use.

I have a 12' x42" steel sided above ground pool. I live in south Florida and have very mild winters but the pool gets too cold. It looks like I would only need one of these systems to heat my pool, is that correct? How far away from the pool can we put the panel? can it be put on the roof? What can we expect for a degree change?

What size header does this solar panel use? I'm looking for a 2inch header to reduce the back pressure. Also do these panels have the little plug in the middle of the header to divert most of the water up through one side of the panel and down to the other?

Hello Dave- These are going to connect with 15" pvc. As for the black plug, from looking at the installation manual it goes through one end, all the way down and back and up to the next heater until it goes to the return for the pool.
