Hello and welcome back to our pool equipment selection series. We’ve already walked you through the process of sizing up the pump. The next step will be to select the type of filter that can handle the size of the pool and the pump. There are three filter types common on residential pools, and they are Sand, Cartridge, and DE. Each have their pros and cons; we will talk you through the basics of each type then we will dive into the finer points. And again, don’t forget to check out part one of the pool equipment selection series in which we discuss how to select and properly size your inground pool pump.
It’s not as big a question as it was six or eight years ago, but I still get a fair amount of people asking about aluminum above ground pools. The main reason anyone would consider an aluminum over a steel above ground pool is to avoid rust. This is definitely true as aluminum won’t rust. Rust is a term that is used only for the oxidation of iron and aluminum has no iron. It will corrode, though, so there’s not much to gain in getting an aluminum pool, but it’s worth going over the pros and cons just in case your heart is set on getting one.
If you don’t want to read this whole article just to get my opinion, then no worries. I’ll give it to you right now. In the general sense, aluminum pools are not worth the extra cost. Now, if you have the time to find out why, read on. (more…)
The PureLine Prime Pump is one of our newest, premiere pumps that rivals top brands like Hayward and Pentair. The PureLine Prime is paired with A.O Smith’s 2 Green premium efficiency motor which has an integrated timer that allows for a much smoother and simpler install. Since the motor is the only electrical component within the pump, it is typically the part that will sustain the most wear and tear. And with any moving part, you’re bound to run into some issues at one point.
Century’s 2 Green integrated electronics control the power supply to the motor. The user is responsible for setting either the Timer Mode of Manual Mode to operate the pump. In short, the user has to program when they want the motor to start and stop High and Low speeds. If either setting has a user error, an error screen will appear and prompt immediate action. Between wear and tear and user error, there are a few things that pool owners can encounter along the way. (more…)
Salt swimming pools have absolutely been the rage for at least the last 15 years and they aren’t going away any time soon. There are a few misconceptions about salt pools as some who don’t know may think that they are a cure-all to pool water chemistry. They of course aren’t, but I do think it’s often a good idea to have one.
With above grounds being the “red-headed stepchild” to the pool industry, a decent salt chorine generator didn’t come out for a few years prior to the original salt pool craze. There are a couple available now, so let us talk about salt pools and above ground swimming pools being salted. Well, we’re not really going to talk, but you know what I mean. (more…)
