Above ground salt water filter

I have a 33’ X 54" round above ground pool that I want to convert to salt.  Current filtration is chlorine with Hayward pump and sand filter.  Electrical 120 volt.

  1. What salt system do you recommend?

  2. Is the sand filter still used?

  3. Do I need to replace the 2 speed pump that I currently have.

Hello Doug - We don’t have an above ground system that can handle the volume of your pool. However, you can use an inground salt system. You’d have to use rigid or flexible pvc plumbing with the salt cell and flow switch.

We’d recommend the PureLine Crystal Pure model PL7709. That system will treat up to 40,000 gallons.

The sand filter can still be used.

You can use a 2-speed pump. The salt systems have minimum flow rates. You’ll have to test the pump on low speed to see if it will produce enough flow for the salt system to operate.
