Cloudy Pool

I have a hayward sand filter for our In ground pool & i have been testing the water every day to make sure the PH, Chlorine, Alkalinity, etc are all in optimal range. The test strip looks fine in every category but my pool is still cloudy. Does this mean the sand needs to be changed because it is no longer effective? Haven’t had to do this yet so I’m assuming you take the top part of the filter off & scoop the sand out by hand… Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Molly - It’s time to change the sand when you backwash the filter and the pressure reading on the filter gauge doesn’t drop. Try using some water clarifier to help clear up the water.

I added some yesterday but I can try adding some more today. The pressure seems fine. I also noticed I need a new gasket I was hoping to purchase from here & was hoping you could point me in the right direction as I don’t see an sp # anywhere or the serial number on my faded nozzle. The pipe slightly leaks after backwashing so it’s either the spider gasket or diverter I’m guessing? I tried to attach a photo of my pump & setup but apparently they size won’t transfer. The top part says 50psi/3.5BAR under. I can attach a photo of my pump & setup. and 10PSI/0.7BAR under Rinse with no serial number on it. The sand filter is model s244t SERIAL# 21121006003549008

The S244T model comes with the SP0714T valve. The spider gasket for that valve is not sold separately. It is glued into the diverter. You can either replace the key, cover & handle assembly (4703-20) or the key/seal assembly (4703-23).

Thank you!

You’re welcome, Molly!
