Cloudy water from Chlorinator

Hello,

I have an issue where when I turn on my chlorinator (Hayward Aquarite Swim Plus Pure with a T-15 salt cell) I get cloudy water from my return jets.  The pool clouds up in minutes.  When I turn the chlorinator off, it clears in a few minutes.  My chemicals are good (chlorine at 3, ph at 7.4, hardness at 302, cya at 70).  Ive cleaned the cell with an acid bath, backwashed the filter, used clarifier to remove any oils/chlorimites but the problem persists.  I even have a brand new filter and sand.  I dialed back the softener to 10% but no luck.  My pool store/vendor doesn’t know and Im baffled. Amy suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi BMassey,

That is definitely an odd one! One last thing to check would be your salt level do you know what that is currently reading? Also have you added stabilizer lately? I know sometimes in my pool when I add stabilizer it adheres to my cartridge filter and can cause cloudy water but in your scenario that would not explain why this only happens when turning on the salt chlorine generator. Is your SCG plumbed to a different plumbing line or any other different mechanical features that is not used when you are not using the SCG? Just trying to figure out if there is anything else introduced when using the SCG that is not used when the SCG is off? Maybe check your flow switch to see if that has any calcium build-up?
