DE "leaf" filter style or Cartridge....?

A pool man came out and recommended I replace my aged Pentair FNS PLUS 60 DE filter  with a “cartridge” style filter.  What are the consequences, both cost wise and maintenance wise, of doing so. I have a 20x40 pool with Aquarite Salt Generation system. I have never had a “Cartridge” filter. Know nothing about them/
