Dual speed motor option for Whisperflo?

The motor on my Whisperflo Pump WF-30 has died, and I would like to replace it with a dual speed motor if possible.

The info on my equipment is as follows:

Pool is 25,000 gallons.  There’s an attached spa, not sure the size. The current pump motor is 2.5hp and1.04 SF, RPM 3450. Gas heater is Pentair MasterTemp 400. Spa has a 2 HP 2 stage blower.  Filter is Pentair Clean & Clear Plus CCP520.  There’s a Booster pump with 3/4 HP and 1.5 SF.  There are 2 pool lights and 1 spa light. Polaris 280 Pool cleaner.

The automation equipment is an older Jandy Aqualink RS4-Combo One Touch model 8158 with firmware JJ. It controls the Main pump, the Polaris Cleaner, the Blower, and the Pool light. This RS4-Combo also controls the Heater and Spa Light.

Part of my question is whether or not the Jandy RS4 is capable of controlling a dual speed (or variable speed) motor.  Reading the documentation, it looks possible, but I may have to have the pool light and spa light be controlled together or add some other kind of relay, or sacrifice some other control?

I’d like to save some energy costs by using a dual speed or variable speed motor (and keeping the existing pump housing).

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me!

If you go the dual speed route, the replacement motor would be model B2984. This is a 2HP full rated dual speed motor. The total HP rating is 2.6. Your Jandy automation system would require a 2-speed pump relay kit, part number 6796.

The more energy efficient option would be a variable speed motor. The 2.7HP variable speed motor would be model number ECM27SQU. This motor would not require any changes to the relays. However, the speed changes would have to be made at the control on the pump.

“However, the speed changes would have to be made at the control on the pump.”

Do you mean that the High and low settings could be set at the pump and then switched or

programmed by way of the Aqualink box?
