Dual Speed Pool Pump Motor Wiring

I purchased this dual speed motor to replace my single speed (they told me it would wire the same as the single speed). When I picked it up, the wiring was all done, so I though, all I had to do was connect line 1 and 2 and ground back into the old timer and leave the timer on. The new programmable motor would do the rest. At home, I wired it back in I programed the current time and Low and High run times (used default suggested run times). It so happened the current time was between either run times so the motor was off. I advanced the current time such that it should be on, and the breaker tripped right away. That’s when I tried it again… still tripped, measured some Volts, etc, pulled off the cover:

It only had line 1 connected to “H” and line 2 was disconnected. Currently in the picture I have connected line 2 to “L”. The motor always runs when connected like this. Does it make sense to connect line 1 to “C” and line 2 to to P2 on the other board like the diagram shows?

Perhaps line 2 was connected to P2, then fell off?? (seems like a loose terminal quick connect anyway)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for contacting Inyo. According to the wiring diagram, one of your incoming hot lines should go to P2 and the other should go to C. It doesn’t matter which hot line goes to P2 or C.
