Hi, I have a pentair tr-40 sand filter, side mount, and would like to know if I can use the new glass media in it? The owners manual doesn’t say anything about it. Do I still need pea gravel in the bottom? How much?  Do I need the same amount of glass as I do for sand?

You can use the glass media in the TR-40. You do not need to use pea gravel. Normally, half the amount of glass media is needed as the sand. So if your filter requires 300 pounds of sand, you’d use 150 pounds of glass media. Check the directions on the bag to confirm the amount required.

I am a bit confused about this glass media. You say to use 150lbs of glass instead of 300lbs of sand. Does the glass fill the filter to the fill line or does it only fill halfway because we are using half as much?

The glass media will not fill the filter up as high as the sand.
