Hayward HP2140 4T heat pump icing up

We installed a Hayward HP2140 4T heat pro heat pump in April this year. It heated up the pool to 82 degrees just fine and around June sometime the heat pump was not needed due to warm California weather and a pool cover. The start of October the pump started to kick in again but I noticed the outside of the heat pump was covered in ice at temperatures in the 80’s. I switched the pump off for a while and let the ice melt and switched it back on. I let it run for some time and found ice building up again without any gain in pool temperature. It is still under warranty and I’m waiting to hear from our nearest Hayward dealer who is 2 hours away.
Has anyone had this problem before or know what it might be?
I called Hayward technical support who could not answer my question and told me to call a dealer.

It sounds like a refrigerant issue. A service tech will need to come out and test with refrigerant gauges. If the heat pump was installed by a professional, it’s still under warranty.
