Hayward Super Pump SP2615x20

Hi INYO,

I have a few questions related to my Hayward pump. The pump is currently operating but is screeching loudly - I suspect that the bearings are shot. This is surprising since this is a replacement motor with only 3 years of operation. At any rate, I watched your video on replacing bearings but I’m not willing to try that at this time. I am willing to entertain the idea of replacing the motor, pending your answers to my questions:

  1. What tools will I need to replace the motor in my SP2615x20?

  2. Is there a video that demonstrates the steps to replace the motor?

  3. Should I use a 2.0 hp motor (I think this is what the x20 in the PN signifies but would just like to double check)

Thanks

Bob Iodice

I’ve been maintaining our in-ground ~30,000 gallon pool through the fall/winter. I’ve not been as “strict” with it, and luckily the cooler weather means the chlorine sticks around longer. I have a Hayward Aquarite system and haven’t had any issues with it. We purchased our home about 8 months ago and the pool is from the mid-1980s. I’ve had the saltwater generator turned off for around 2 months, and typically run the pump every-other-day for ~8 hours, in addition to vacuuming once per week and keeping the skimmers clean as usual. I’ve not needed to add salt for months, and instead have just been using liquid chlorine, around a gallon each week. Things have stayed great the entire time! Whew.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the information! Below are the answers to your questions.
