Hayward upgrade

Hello Folks,

The motor, a 1.5hp Hayward SP1610Z1M single speed I believe, on my pump is getting ready to give up the ghost judging by the increasingly & extremely loud “humming” noise it’s developed in the last week or so. I’ve been advised that I am required by law to go with a variable speed motor now. Economically, I’d prefer to replace the motor only as the basket and impeller assembly appear to be functioning properly. If you can provide insight & advice regarding a suitable variable speed motor to replace the single speed one, I would sure appreciate it… thank you very much.

You must be in California and under the Title 20 regulations.  Your SP1610Z1M motor can be replaced with this V-Green 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor - ECM16CU.

When you install it and set it up properly it will save you quite a bit on your electric bill; don’t forget to check with your local city or utility company to see if you can get a rebate on it as well.  PLEASE NOTE that the variable-speed motors operate on 220 volts only and need an adapter to interface with an automation system if you have one.  And don’t forget to order a Tune-Up Kit so you have new o-rings and a new motor shaft seal for a leak-free installation.  Click on the link below for the correct kit for your model pump:
