heater response

Just got a new h series 400 Hayward heater from you, I have a goldline Hayward system. The system won’t run the heater. I have to adjust temps and heater/spa manually. The 3 wire remote is attached. The goldline is set to ‘shared heater’. The goldline will cotrol the valves, t-cell and other functions but won;t hook up to the new heater. Is the new heater too sophisticated for the gold line ? Wht won’t the heater respond to the panel?

For a three-wire or three terminal connection, this will depend on which heater relay in the control is set for pool and which for spa.  For example if Heater Relay 1 is configured for pool then there should be two wires connected to the two Heater Relay 1 terminals then connected to the heater’s Pool (orange) and Com (white) terminal.  Next if Heater Relay 2 is configured for spa then there should be two wires connected to the two Heater Relay 2 terminals then connected to the heater’s Spa (red) and Com (white) terminal.  The heater will have two control wires on Com (white) and one on Pool (orange) and one on Spa (red).  This way the control can close the circuit for Heater Relay 1 (pool) turning on the heater for pool mode, or close the circuit for Heater Relay 2 (spa) turning on the heater for spa mode, each with its own set-point. I’ve included the tech training diagram for the Universal H-Series Heater (Forced Draft) below. image.png
