High Chlorine in salt water pool with vinyl liner

We have a vinyl lined 16 gallon salt water pool with a Hayward salt generator.  The pool water is looking cyrstal clear however, the chlorine levels are very high.  Test strip reflects at least 10 total chlorine and 5 free chlorine.  The pool had been covered for the winter but, we turned the salt generator off and pulled the cover off 5 days ago.  We also added about 2 inches of water to the pool 2 days ago.  It’s difficult to tell from a test strip but if the chlorine has been reduced at all it’s minimally.  What do you suggest we do to get chlorine levels in line?

I’m assuming it’s cold where you live. Chlorine won’t be used up very quickly when it’s cold and especially when the pool is covered. You can either drain and replace more water or use chlorine neutralizer to drop the free chlorine level.

It is not yet cold here, days in the 70’s nights in the 50’s.

That’s cool enough to not burn through chlorine. I’m in central Florida and haven’t had to add much chlorine in the last month.
