High psi/ Low suction

I have had my pool for 15 years with no problems. This year I can’t do anything right. The psi is up around 28 - 30 and I have very little to no suction at one of my skimmers. The pool is 16 x 32 with a DE filter and Hayward pump. At first I thought it was a clog so I used a bladder to shake things up on the skimmer side. Truth tell I was afraid of doing the same at the filter side. Help please I don’t even really know the right questions to ask. Could there be too much D.E. in the filter?  Do I have a clog? All I’ve ever done is check the chemicals, run the filter and vacuum every weekend.

We’d be glad to assist you. If you have a multiport valve, place it in the recirculate position and run the system. If the skimmer starts working, you know the problem is in the filter. It’s possible there is too much DE in the filter. We’d recommend taking the filter apart and manually washing off the grids.

Thank you. So I braved taking the filter apart and it looked like the monster from the green lagoon. I was able to get the manifolds out and clean them. I put everything back , lubed what needed to be lubed and replaced an o-ring inside the filter. I turned the filter on and I added D.E. to the skimmer.  I added liquid shock to the deep end.  I’ll run the filter over night and say a pray that everything starts to clear up. Thank you for your help

Good luck. Come back and let us know how it turns out.
