I noticed a leak where the bottom L shaped pipe that connects the multiport valve to the sand filter joins the valve body and wondered if when installed it is supposed to be glued (PVC cemet)? I see no evidence of PVC cementm and it’s been installed almost 20 years but I also don’t see any cracks or anything to explani the water coming out of that joint. I guess the design may have changed over these years. Perhaps reading the installation instructions on a new valve might answer this. An exploded diagram would help too. It souds crazy but I have seen PVC joints that were forgotten (never glued) last in drain systems but I would think the pressure at the sand filter would expose that sooner.
In most cases, the valve is not glued to the body of the sand filter. It is connected by two union fittings.

Sorry, I didn’t communicate my question well. My leak is not at the union where the “L” shaped bottom pipe connects to the sand filter but at the top of that bottom pipe where it joins the multi-port valve body.
It’s likely that you have the style where the pipe was glued into the body of the valve at the factory.
They also made a version that has threaded ports at the bottom of the valve. This type of valve was designed to be used on multiple filters because of the flexibility of the plumbing configurations.
Since the leak is not very bad is it likely that installing the gasket kit would at least stop it during normal operation (filtering) and only leak while backflushing? The bottom tube is only used when backflishing, right?
The backwash line is usually on the side of the valve and there is a sight glass right before it. Gaskets probably won’t fix the issue if it’s leaking from the port on the bottom.
