Leaking liner

We live in Illinois where sometimes the winters can be brutal. We have an 18 foot above ground pool. There are two large tears in the vinyl liner due to my own stupidity. I tried to be inventive by rigging an old push broom as a pool brush. Well the broom has a metal frame and I accidentally made the tears in the liner. We tried to patch it with some vinyl from an old water pillow. We secured the walls at intervals around the pool by attaching one end of pieces of twine on the top of the wall and the other end to the surrounding fence to secure it.We then drained the pool and attached the patches with marine adhesive. We refilled the pool only to find that one patch did not hold so the pool continues to leak. My question is this. Should we drain the pool again and leave it empty for the winter with the walls secured to keep the wall stable and replace the liner next season? Should we remove the old liner after it is drained or just leave it in?

Thank you for contacting Inyo. We’d recommend removing the liner and securing the wall from the inside and outside of the pool.
