Light transformer before or after switch?

I’m switching from a 120v light to a 12v LED. I have mounted the new transformer above the switch on the exterior wall of the house. I planned to switch the power BEFORE the transformer to keep the transformer from ‘wearing out’ by having constant power running to it 24/7. Is there a reason NOT to do this? I can easily put the switch after the transformer where the switch is handling only 14V. Input is appreciated.

Thank you for contacting Inyo. The transformer should go after the switch.  As you said, the transformer doesn’t need to be operating 24/7.
