Low pressures

In ground pool, new pump, filter & case, new  regulator, correct plumbing, I cannot keep the pump where it will allow me to vacuum the pool or routinely filter at a normal flow. I backwash and flow is good for a while but then pressure gauge goes up and no flow. I have completely cleaned the filter salt cartridge (pressure washed) reinstalled, checked all valves for blockages and still can’t get a constant flow with good pressure. Pump appeares to be doing fine, I separated the filter tank from the multi valve and not blockage. Thurolly cleaned filter. I am at witts end to know what to do next. Do you think I do not have a strong enough pump?

What type of filter is it? If it is sand, when was the last time you put in new sand?

Regarding if the pump is strong enough: if it working fine and pushing enough water before this pressure issue, it should work fine after the problem is fixed. Also, with salt cells, they do not need to be pressure washed. An acid soak is the best method for cleaning it.

Salt is used. I had to pressure wash to get all the DE off the filter. I have not replaced the DE yet. Wanted to see how the system responded without DE. I have better pressure but can’t vacuum due to no DE. Algae is not filtered and returns to pool. Pressure problem not solved.

Did you start to see the algae around the same time the pressure issues arose? if so, that would have been an important thing to bring up in the initial message because that is a key contributor to water pressure issues. Algae, dead or alive, put a heavy strain on a filter. The only way to get rid of it is a cycle of shocking, filtration, and backwashing. We cover the process here: How to Clean a Green Pool?
