The Hayward model # PE52A50XKE-S has not been built since 2003. The serial number indicates 4th quarter of 2003. The single mechanical thermostat control for that unit was # HPX1105 which was line-voltage (240vac). It may be possible for an HVAC contractor to match-up a generic line-voltage thermostat control, but that might be tricky and unsafe to suggest to a homeowner. They’d probably be safer having a professional handle the repair. The alternative is to replace the mechanical thermostat with the digital retro-fit kit plus transformer: # HPXCTLKIT3 Digital Control Board Kit (control board, interface board, wire harness)and# HPX11023693 Transformer 24vac I’ve run into problems even with HVAC repair services trying to install this kit because it requires re-routing safety switches from being daisy-chained together to being connected to the interface board. So going this route would be better handled, not by a homeowner, but by a service pro and even then it is dicey. I hope that helps. The third alternative, since that model heat pump is about 16 years old, is to install a newer unit. Sometime in the future, they may encounter the need for another repair part that might not be available.
