Need help with a replacement motor

Hi- I am told my current motor is going bad and needs replaced. It’s the Century SQ1202 and also the gasket is leaking.
The man who came to look at it said they make a bigger one now that would work on the pool.
i am open to that.
but since I’m buying a new motor, can I get a variable speed motor?
Is there a good variable speed motor that works with this set up?

I just replaced my SQ1202 with a Century V-Green 270

I can barely read the tag in your image but I see 1.3 which looks like a SF and 11.2 which I suspect is amps.  If so, that’s probably the 2 HP pump rating I had. I wanted a little more power because I have an endless edge overflow type pool.  The 1.3 SF combined with a 2 HP pump, if that’s what it says on your tag, equals 2.3 HP.  The variable speed V Green 270 will be up to 2.7 hp and will work for your application in my experience.  I get 100 gpm at full speed which is right in the zone for my filter system with 2" piping.  You should install a GPM flow meter if you want to get the most benefit from your variable speed pump.  That will let you calculate the exact amount of time and rpm to run the pump to get a compete water turnover in 24 hours.  I used a FlowVis meter that fit in one of my jandy one-way valves.

Hello Michelle - Yes, you can replace your current motor with the ECM27SQU. The ECM27SQU is the square flange 2.7HP variable speed motor. Click Here to View the ECM27SQU Motor

My pump parts and seals were 14 years old. I replaced the seals with a seal kit and I ended up having to replace the impeller (worn where diffuser plate bushing touches) and the diffuser plate (small hole from ???).

Thank you.

What other parts do I need to order for this?  Do I need a seal kit or impeller or IDK what…

Also would I have to reconfigure my pipes for this?  Or would this be a simple switch out?  Are variable speeds really better?  Should I just stick with replacing the exact motor I have?

Hi Michelle,

You would also require this 2.5 HP Jandy Stealth Impeller Kit and this Jandy Stealth Shaft Seal
