PL2601 Faulty Seal inside pump?

I just installed the PL2601 and noticed that the seal inside of the pump isnt fully set. Almost half of it is outside of the housing. Will this affect performance and long term use?

It seems to take longer than usual to prime (but does prime) and output seems to be a bit weaker than the previous pump.

It looks like the diffuser gasket is not set correctly. This can impact the performance of the pump. You can loosen the four bolts that secure the motor and slide it back. You can then fix the diffuser gasket.

If you do not want to do that, contact our customer support at 407-834-2200 and let them know how you would like to proceed. Thank you again for shopping with Inyo!

Thanks Rob,

That was easy enough to fix, but now when I turn it on there’s no water pumping at all. The motor sounds fine, but no water movement at all.

When I first installed it, it primed but pumped water a bit weaker than I was expecting… it ran overnight but by morning (today) it was barely moving water and not primed. I cleaned out the basket, backwashed and everything seemed to be ok again, but as the day went on it kept getting weaker. That’s when I fixed the diffuser gasket… Now it runs but won’t pump water.

Is there something else I could try, or should I contact customer support?

Thanks again for the help!

Did you fill the pump strainer with water before you turned the pump back on? I would put a garden hose on the pump strainer and let it run for a couple minutes. That will allow the pipes to fill back up with water. Put the lid back on the pump and turn the pump on. Then bleed the air from the filter until it starts to spray water.

Yeah, I left the garden hose in the strainer for quite a while, covered it, then let the pump run for a few minutes. It didn’t seem to be building up much pressure at all.

I have a sand filter, so do you mean loosening the top valve to bleed the air?

Yes. Try loosening the air bleed valve.

I tried everything you said, but the pump isn’t building any pressure at all. When I loosened the bleed valve a bit of air came out, but not much.

In your opinion, do you think the pump could be faulty, or something else?
The old pump ran fine last year (just old, loud and needing replacing)… and this one ran ok for a day, but noticibly weaker.

What was the make and model of your old pump?

It was an old Hayward Super Pump with a 1HP Century motor.

The Super Pump was about 15 years old and I’ve replaced the motor a few times with the same type.

The PL2601 should push as much as the 1HP Super Pump. Contact our customer support and let them know of your issues and that you’ve tried to troubleshoot. Explain the diffuser issue and ask them for a replacement. You can call 407-834-2200 or submit a ticket on the following page.

Hello again…

After contacting customer support and sending in a photo of the old pump label, it looks like I screwed up and bought the wrong size pump. I’ve always bought the exact same motor and never took into account the service factor. I still have a question out to customer support about return/exchange, but if I need to buy a new motor is this the one you would reccomend?

Motor 56j Thrd Up 1.5 Hp (b229se)

Also, would I be able to use the internals of the new pump, or would I also need a 1.5 HP Impeller… and anything else?

Thanks for all your help Rob!

If you wanted to upgrade the new pump to a 1.5HP, you would get the B229SE motor and the PL2643 impeller.
