Pool Filter Size

Hello, I purchased a house with a pool and I’m trying to familiarize myself with the pool equipment. It turns out my Heyward Pool Filter is severely undersized; and I want to replace it with the correct one but would like a recommendation.

My pool is about 18,000 - 19,000 gallons. There is a main drain, and a strainer in the main pool area with 2 jets. There is also a small spa area that could overflow into the pool; it has 1  drain and 4 jets that can only be turned on if the main drain/strainer and main jets are switched to off. The equipment is located about 10 feet from the pool.

The current pump is a Century Two Speed Pentair WhisperFlo (Model WFDS-4); 1 HP/ 1.65 Service factor.

Currently there is a Heyward ProSeries 50lb sand filter (model: S144T).

Can you recommend a new filter?

Hello Ruff - I always recommend oversizing a filter. Something like the Hayward S244T would work well with your pump and pool size. The S244T comes with 1.5" ports. The Hayward S244T2 has 2" ports. I would select the one that has the same size ports as your plumbing.
