Pool Pump Upgrade Size - How Large Should I Go?

I currenlty have an Intex Pool Pump with .75 HP that circulates 3,000 GPH connected to a 16" Intex Sand Filter and Intex SWG which is connected to 2" PVC plumbing that connects to two (2) Gyro Solar Panel water heaters which altogether totals approxiamtely 30-32’ in length of plumbing from Skimmer to Inlet.

This is my current set up providing filteration and cholorination to my 15’  x 30’ x 54" oval above ground pool.

Although the pump is operating at full power, I don’t think it is circulating the water fast enough.

Can I upgarde to a 1.5 HP pool pump with my current setup to produce a better circulation rate? Do I need a larger Sand Filter or is 16" still sufficient? Or is an upgrade to a 1HP sufficient?

Thank you for any advice!

Your 15x30 oval above-ground pool contains about 12.000 gallons, so your current setup should be more than enough if your pump volume is correct, though the extra work put on it for the solar panels could necessitate a larger pump.

We don’t have much information on the Intex-branded pumps and filters, but, we do recommend a larger pump for your pool.  Although it sounds like you should be fine, be sure that your plumbing and filter can handle the increased flow if you choose to upgrade.
