Pump timer or not

I have a single speed 1.5hp pump (Century B2858) that runs 24/7. If I put the pump on a timer, is that going to shorten its life expectancy due to reltively frequent On/Off cycles (once a day)? The last pump I had lasted around 5 years before bearings become way too noisy.

I have not seen any evidence that suggests turning it on/off each day will dramatically decrease the life of the motor. You are wasting a lot of energy if you run the pump 24/7. A B2858 motor running 24/7 would require 21,155 kWh per year. At 15 cents per kWh, the cost to run that motor all year is $3,173.31. Running it 8 hours a day would cost $1,057.You could buy a new motor every year and still save a ton of money by running it on a timer.
