Pump will not prime after vacuuming

I just recently installed a hayward superpump (3/4 hp on 115v). Everything had been running fine for a couple weeks until today when I used the manual vacuum. I have had issues in the past with using the vacuum and losing prime but I thought with the new pump and new vacuum hose (just purchased today) I would be okay.

I used the vacuum for about 5 minutes and lost suction. I then backwashed and rinsed my filter, detached the hose and ran filter normally. But still wont prime. I have cleaned both skimmer and strainer baskets, checked the pump cover, checked the pipe fittings, cleaned the impellor, filled the strainer with water and taken the motor off and replaced it again, but still no prime.

At this point I have no clue what to do, please help.

I think maybe it was a clogged line. I tried running it on different settings of the sand filter to get the pump to prime. I ran it on ‘recirculate’ for about a minute and it almost seemed to get all of the air out. Then when I ran it on ‘rinse’ it spit out a chunk into the strainer basket. After that I finally got it to run again. Thanks for nothin guys! (Just kidding) hope maybe this helps someone else down the line

We really appreciate the update. We always recommend using a vac plate on the skimmer basket or a leaf catcher when manually vacuuming. That way the larger debris won’t get stuck in your plumbing.

Thanks Newscomb for the update! We also put together this Video on My Pool Pump won’t Prime which is a good step-by-step guide on troubleshooting Pool Pump Priming issues.
