shock treatment

Some literature says to add shock to your pool once a week (I have oak trees all around the inground pool), other literature says when you have a salt chlorine generator that shocking can be achieved by turning your Intellichlor to superchlorinate overnight once a week.  Is the latter essentially the same as the former?

Hi Rookie,

In my opinion shocking should not be needed on a weekly basis if you are testing your water regularly. Shocking is done to kill algae however if you keep your chlorine levels and cyanuric acid at the proper levels then you will prevent algae from forming in the first place. We suggest maintaining these Cynuric Acid and Chlorine Levels If you do get an algae bloom then we have not had the best of luck with the Super Chlorinate feature on the Salt System as it takes too long to bring your pool up to high chlorine levels to kill your algae. When getting an algae bloom we suggest using SLAM Process which you can find here SLAM - Shock Level and Maintain

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any questions.

Thank You

Patrick
