stubborn housing gasket leak/replace housing/keep motor

Recently upgraded to ECM16CU round flange variable speed motor, now I have a stubborn housing gasket leak at higher speeds.  Want to replace pump housing with something that uses O ring instead of the flat gasket of the Hayward Superpump.  Suggestions?

You could go with the PureLine Prime housing. It looks very similar to the Super Pump but it uses an o-ring instead of the flat housing gasket.

You-all sell it as a unit (minus the motor) or do I have to piece it together?

We don’t currently offer the complete pump without the motor. You would have to buy each part individually.

Not all the required parts are available, so I would be buying a new pump.

That said, back to the original problem.  The housing gasket does not work.  The wet side continuously leaks.  The dry side is dry.  Water exits the wet side via the seam in the housing.

Your video mentions that the gasket should be so tight that you might need two people to thread it in the groove.  I have a RS1000 housing.  Mine seems loose.  Anything special I should know?  Does it not use the GOKIT2?

The pump in that video is a Hayward Super Pump. The RS1000 is the Hayward Super II.  The GOKIT2 is correct for the Super II. The housing gasket is not tight on that pump. I would try pulling it out and lubricating it again with a silicone/teflon lubricant. Then reinstall the gasket and hopefully, the leaking will stop.
