Super Pump union/fitting leak

I have what I think I believe is a Hayward Super pump. I’ve bought this house in may. See pics:

The union on top of the pump where the water exits the pump is leaking between the fitting and the pump. I removed the union/fitting, and it looked like it was in good shape. It didn’t look like a typical part I could pick up at Home Depot. I cleaned the thread, put a healthy wrapping of teflon tape on the threads, and put it back in. I tightened it it pretty tight, and it seemed well. It is now leaking again. It is definitely leaking between where the black pump meets the white PVC. Should I try a new fitting? Maybe it is warped? Is there some other way I’m supposed to handle putting this fitting in? It is not a ton of water, but it is definitely leaking.

Hello Matthew - Replacing the fitting is worth a shot. A standard 1.5" union will work on your application. If that doesn’t work, the pump housing may be warped. At that point, you could replace the housing or the complete pump.

Thanks. I’ve been looking for an excuse to get a new pump and motor. I will probably just put some sort of pipe expoxy on there for now to minimize it until I’m able to replace everything.

Good luck, Matthew! Let us know how it turns out for you.
