Time Interval for salt generator?

Hi guys. I’m still quite green but I’m learning. I wanted to ask about how many hours at a time should my salt generator be on? It comes on with my pump currently but some of the programs are 2 hours long at  only 1000 rpm. Here is the current pump schedule:

1200 to 2 am- 1725 rpm

2am to 4 am - 1000 rpm

8am to 10am - 2400 rpm

12p to 4p - 1000 rpm

6p to 10p - 1725 rpm.

at this time the salt generator is powered every time the pump runs and so does heater. Heater and salt generator are on their own timer control but time is synced to match pump timer. I took the advice from this forum and used a programmable timer for heater and salt generator system. I have a t-15 with crystal pure control I bought here, as well as my raypak heater came from here. Any help would be appreciated. System is on, just fired it up 2 days ago. I added 13 bags salt and I’m at about 2600 ppm According to gen control. Last question, when I test water manually, what shall I test besides ppm salt? My first pool, but I’m no dummy. Thank you

The salt system needs to run long enough to keep the free chlorine level at 1-3 parts per million. I like to run mine when the sun is out. You could run it between 8am and 4pm. Try setting the salt system at a 50% output and test the chlorine in 2 days. Make adjustments to the percentage based on if the chlorine is high or low.

Besides salt, I would recommend checking chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer, and calcium.

Recommend a particular pump RPM during this time? Thank ya.

I would recommend running the pump at the minimum RPM to keep your salt system operating. That is something we can’t determine. You’ll have to test the system at the lowest speed and then move it up until the salt system doesn’t indicate low flow.

I wondered about this. I get a slo reading on 1000 rpm. I’ll change programming to up speed.

Yeah, it’s different on every pool. That’s why we couldn’t suggest a specific speed. Good luck!

Thank you much
