totally clueless

I lost my husband in Febuary to Cancer and for the last months before he left he was unable to do much of anyhting. It was his job to care for the pool as was my boys before they grew up and left home. With all I have had to deal with for the last 9 months my pool has suffered greatly. Before my husbands passing I never thought to ask him to school me at careing for the pool. I have had people say they would come clean it and get it set properly and teach me how to maintain it. Needless to say no one showed up. I can not afford what the local pool companys want to charge me to prepare clean and maintain my 30,000 gallon pool. I need help to get this pool back to usable condition. I have not the first clue what Im doing. Ive watched videos thrown money at it and hired people to clean out the leaves and debris. Yet it remains unusable. Where do I start at getting this pit presentable and useable and not cost me thousands of dollars. I would like my grandson to be able to enjoy the pool this summer and not just the frogs. Where do I begin
