Use of liquid chlorine in a salt water pool

My pool guy always adds liquid chlorine to my salt water pool. I have never seen him add salt. Will this shorten the life of the generator? Does he do this because he is lazy and the chlorine is more readily available and easier to handle? Also, while I don’t see him every week, I have never seen him vacuuming the pool.True, there are no leaves falling in the pool and the pool looks clean but there must be some sediment that falls into the pool. His routine is to brush along the water line, empty the skimmer basket if it had any debris, check the chemistry and that’s it. Occasionally he will hose the filter cartridge which was recently replaced.

Adding the liquid chlorine will not shorten the life of the cell. It is easier to just throw a jug of chlorine in each and keep the pool blue. At a minimum, they should be brushing the sides each week and vacuuming (if you don’t have an automatic vac).

To be honest, the routine that you are describing is common for pool cleaning services.
