Variable Speed Motor for Challenger Pump

I have challenger 1 HP Challenger pump PAC-7-AB and pentair 1.5 HP motor with 2.21 SF HP  (3450 rpm SF 1.47).  What would I need to replace the motor with a variable speed motor and keep the pump?

The replacement variable speed motor for your Challenger pump is part number ECM27SQU. We’d also recommend replacing the seals when you replace the motor. The seal kit is GOKIT5.

Why can’t I use the ECM16squ.  It is about the same HP and I can dial down the  rpm to be energy efficient.   The pump is only 1 hP .

You current pump motor has a total HP rating of 2.2 (1.5HP x 1.47SF). The ECM16SQU is only 1.65. You’d have to downsize your impeller in order to use the ECM16SQU. If you can get the part number from your existing impeller, we can recommend the replacement.

Looks like I have the impeller 355369 since it is aCHII-N1 series with a 1-1/2FE rating.

You can use the 355369 impeller with the ECM16SQU. However, that impeller doesn’t match the original specs you provided for the current motor.

you  were right.  I took apart the pump and the impeller that I have is 35315.   Thanks once again I will order the 355369 impeller along with the gokit5 and ecm16squ motor.

Great! Thank you for shopping with Inyo.
