water drips from candy cane vents near filter setup

I have an inground pool/spa setup with the spa being above the pool.

I am having water drip some times in spurts from the candy cane pvc lines by the filter assembly.  I have been advised these are safety devices so that nobody gets stuck on a drain.  This dripping happens when the filter pump is on.  I usually have the spill over running at the same time. These candy canes are are about 4’ high.

I am having a pool leak and had a company come out to test for leaks.  They had to cut these candy canes to do their testing and I have noticed the problem since, though not sure if happening before since it is on the side of the house.

They raised the height on one candy cane and appeared to solve the problem but I noticed water dripping from the other.  He advised the candy canes should be at a heights above the pool and spa water levels.  I assume a candy cane for the pool and one for the spa?

Not sure if I sure just add some height to the one that is dripping??

Any help on this ould be appreciated.

Hello Capt Ernie - We’d be glad to assist you. Could you post a couple pictures of your candy cane shaped lines?

Here is a picture I took today. The right one spurts out pretty good at times. The left one seems much better since they raised the height. Pump and spillover running. You can see the water spurting out of the right.

Those “candy cane” pipes were installed to let air into the system when the spa is on. These allow air to mix with water and produce the bubbling effect in the spa. These lines should be higher than the water level of the spa. If you add a coupler and raise it up, the leaking should stop.

Thank you, this is my sons pool so I have to drop by to see if it is dripping.  I added about 6-12" to the one on the right and it seems to have helped it.  I will post when I have it solved.  The jets were removed to test the system for leaks, had alot of diffculty re-installing them as water was shooting up the air vents around the concrete top of the spa.  We finnally got them seated properly.  My question is could it be that there is still a jet seating problem that is contributing to this candy cane problem?  The jets seem to be working as designed in the spa.  I am surprised that we have been having to raise the height of these canes after the pool Iinspection??

I purchased a 2’ x 1" piece of pvc at Home Depot to keep with me and will add height as needed to either one if it spurts any more water.

Thanks for your help

Ernie

If an orifice in one of the spa jets is blocked, it can cause water to back up and exit through the air intake.
