Water Life

We have a 11000 gal above ground pool.  I’ve noticed the water having a bitter taste to it.   Is there something we are missing in our water testsing procedure ?

Also is there a timeline our timeframe that pool should be drained and new water put in ?   Our’s is 6 years old this year.

Hello Steve - Thank you for contacting Inyo. You’ll want to test for free chlorine, combined chlorine, pH, alkalinity, CYA (stabilizer), calcium, and TDS levels.

There isn’t a set timeline for replacing all of the water. One problem with older pool water can be the TDS (total dissolved solids) level. The TDS levels can get so high that they prevent the water from being clear and reduce the effectiveness of chlorine. If TDS levels get too high, you should drain some water and add fresh water.
