Hi John, yes the 2-inch dimension refers to the inner diameter of the threaded PVC fitting/coupling.

Is this pvc schedule 40? I have this heater/pvc and it cracked after 1 summer of use. Do you have any pvc just like this but stronger?

Hi Matthew unfortunately this is the strongest material this part is available in. This would be the correct part for you if you have this heater.
