What is the length and diameter of this filter, also the size of the hole?

The Length of this cartridge is 19 5/8" with Outside Diameter 7" and a hole diameter of 3".

Does this filter take place of the sand and does it fit into the sand container?

This is a replacement cartridge for a Hayward C550 Cartridge Filter. This is not meant to replace the sand in a sand filter.
