I have a Hayward Filter, model DE4800. How many of these de grids will I need? And what is the mfg. number for the "short" grid?

A  Answered on 7/23/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The Hayward DE4800 filter takes 7 of the large grids part # FG1004 and one of the small grid part # PG1904. We do sell a de grid pack here which includes all 8 grids which is listed here on this page as part # PL0188  Thanks!

Ordered grid online Description of the product was helpful. The online instructional video was great demonstrating how to put it together as it was a bit tricky.

When back washing we notice several grids were broken, dryrotted, so we knew we needed to replace.

large o-ring around middle of filter blowing out of its channel

Written on 6/5/2019 by Guest

At Spring startup, while vacuuming out the pool, the big o-ring between the top and bottom halves of the DE filter (Pentair FNS+4800) blew out of its channel with a big bang and an incredible fountain or water.

Several attempts at cleaning up, replacing with a new o-ring, but it kept happening. I noticed that after backwashing the pool would run ok until I started to vac.

Opened the filter and pulled out the grids and found them coated with clay. This was a weird winter where the usual 1 to 2 feet of snow were replaced with rainstorms that left three to four inches of mud, which had gummed up my filter.

I took the grids apart and thoroughly cleaned them, but it turned out that there was mud on the inside that I could not get out, so I ordered replacement grids, vac'd the pool to waste in order to get the clay out without further filter damage, assembled the grids and thoroughly cleaned everything and put iot all back together, now everything is working.

Three hints:
1. a 5/8" racheting wrench makes it a lot easier to get the band and clamp off and back on and also fits the drain plug. Be sure to watch a video about opening and closing the filter and carefully follow the instructions about hitting all the way around the band with a mallet once for every couple of turns of the bolt in the clamp

2. you need to lubricate the o-ring, like any O-ring. The easiest thing to do is to fill one hand with silicone lube and use the other hand to pull the o-ring through. WRONG this stretches the o-ring. instead, use your fingers to PUSH the o-ring through the lube.

3. it can be a little tricky to correctly position the grids on the bottom support. When done correctly, the backbone of each grid will rest directly on a little circle in the bottom manifold that provides support.

Had DE entering my pool

Written on 8/2/2018 by Guest

I found DE entering my pool- which meant I had one or more bad filter grids. As it had been awhile since I had replaced any of them, I decided to just order a full new set. Process was simple, just disassemble filter , remove grids ( cleansed the ones I removed to see what shape they were in), decided to go ahead and replace with the whole new set, re assemble grids, reassemble filter, put on new o ring, close unit back up
